RED has released a new update for REDCINE-X PRO. This update is an NVIDIA dedicated to enhancing 8K workflow. However, it is relevant for Windows systems only. Mac users, carry on.

We have been writing about this for a while, and I am talking about the bond between RED and NVIDIA to elevate the capabilities of a native 8K workflow. RED wants you to edit your 8K natively straight of your camera and without making any proxies. The advantages for that are clear (more precise grading, shortened post process and so on), and according to RED, NVIDIA is the best (and only) path to native 8K editing.

REDCINE-X PRO v51

Two days ago, RED has released its new update for REDCINE-X PRO v51 Beta 3. The update is aimed for NVIDIA GPUs optimal implementation with REDCINE-X and. The update will grant you an accelerated r3d decompression in order to significantly improve the 8K playback and transcode performances on NVIDIA CUDA GPUs.

  • Fixed: RMD file Creative 3D LUT fixes

Overview:

  • Significantly improved 8K playback and transcode performance on NVIDIA CUDA GPUs.
  • NEW Chroma Noise Reduction Algorithm [Full Demosaic Only – IPP2 Only]
  • Algorithm is designed to tastefully remove chroma noise while fully preserving image detail
  • Works as part of the demosaic and thus does not blur the chroma
  • Provides improvement over D.E.B by reducing color shift in the deepest of shadows, allowing for use in very high ISO environments
  • Part of the upcoming R3D SDK for NLEs
  • NEW Adjustable Flashing Pixels Algorithm (Off, Mild, Medium, Strong) [Full Demosaic Only] *
  • Algorithm removes random flashing pixels without any loss of detail, as is typical in other traditional noise reduction techniques
  • Targets pixels in the RAW data ahead of the demosaic
  • Part of the upcoming R3D SDK for NLEs
  • Added: HDR support for select AJA and Blackmagic Design devices
  • Selecting 2084 or HLG as gamma option auto-enables HDR for AJA & BMD (if supported)
  • Cleaned up the default REDCINE-X Pro Home Page
  • Additional bugs and improvements

System  Requirements

  • 64-bit Windows Vista or later
  • 1GB hard drive space
  • 8GB RAM (recommended)
  • 2GB GPU Video RAM (when using GPU acceleration)
  • 6GB GPU Video RAM (when using GPU R3D decompression)

It’s important to note that according to the update that Dual GPUs currently do not provide performance improvements.

Final thoughts

RED and NVIDIA are sprinting together to allow native 8K editing.  For now, Apple doesn’t play this game, hopefully, will join later on. RED is waiting.
