Ultra High-Speed cinematography

Phantom cameras are used in a wide variety of applications, especially within the systematic investigation and scientific research spectrum like medical and physics. The ultra-high frame rate capabilities of these cameras are also being utilized in the cinema world when extreme slow motion shots are needed.

Take a look at the video below which demonstrates the 17,000 FPS (Frame per Seconds) beauty of a bursting water balloon.

Just a reminder, the VEO is the last series from Vision Research which is focused on more lightweight design, smarter form factor, and lower price, compared to the Flex cameras. The VEO series consists of 6 cameras with similar features.

  • Extreme Dynamic Range (EDR)
  • 10Gb Ethernet
  • Weight: 5.6 lbs (2.5 kg)

See below the FPS/Record time table:

Codec: Cine Raw (.cine)

The codec is Phantom Cine Raw (.cine), which can be easily converted to other formats including h.264 mp4, ProRes .mov, AVI, Ti , JPEG, DNG and more using dedicated software. It’s important to note, that although Cine Raw files are compatible with many major NLEs, the conversion can cause some serious bottleneck in post. The Cine Raw files can be saved to CFast cards in two versions: 10 “packed” and 12 bit “unpacked” for maximum quality and manipulation in post.  BTW, the quality of the Cine RAW codec is really good. The images are clean and beautiful. The RAW itself is outstanding.

Price: about $60,000. There is no defined price on the website so this is just an estimation.
