The EOS R5 which is Canon’s new flagship full-frame mirrorless camera is currently still in the development phase. However, there are several confirmed rumors so the specs can be locked down, like 8K internally and improved IBIS. Let’s read below.
The new announcement by Canon
These additional details come exactly one month since Canon released the development announcement of the EOS R5. As stated by to Canon: “The EOS R5 is next-generation full-frame mirrorless that will include a newly developed CMOS sensor that makes possible camera’s 8K video capture capabilities”. Also, the EOS R5 will be the first Canon camera equipped with a high-performance coordinated image stabilization (IS) system that integrates the camera’s in-body IS with IS systems on attached RF lenses”.
8K internally (no-crop)
According to Canon, the R5 will be able to record internally 8K footage using the full width of the sensor at up to 30p. Canon emphasizes that the latest Canon EOS R camera is set to redefine mirrorless with its market-leading features. In addition, in all 8K modes, the EOS R5 will support Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF. Furthermore, it was announced that the full-frame mirrorless Canon EOS R5 will feature advanced animal AF, that is able to perform both eye and body recognition to detect and track birds, dogs, and cats. Nevertheless, we know nothing regarding the most important part – which is the codec used to capture the video. Hopefully, it’ll not be an 8-bit(!)
