RED has just announced that it will start selling a limited edition (custom color) of its forthcoming Komodo 6K cameras for $7,000. The regular (black) model will cost $6,000. And what about Hydrogen owners? Read below.
RED starts to sell Komodos
RED Digital Cinema president, Jarred Land, has just posted on his social networks that the company is ready to sell limited editions of the Komodo. Personally, it was surprising since the company like many other camera manufacturers has been closed due to the COVID-19 situation. The factory has just opened its gates a few days ago and it seems the business and production are getting accelerated pretty fast there. It’s important to mention that the camera is not being available yet to be purchased via dealers, and the only way you can get it is by emailing the company’s president. Moreover, it appears that the first Komodos to be sold are those with custom colors (special editions) and the Stormtrooper (the white model).
In 2 weeks I’m gonna start selling some crazy colored Komodos to my friends and anyone else who wants to be a little “different”. Super limited low quantities. Will make just a handful per week till the stormtroopers are ready. Email me if you’re interested.
Jarred Land, RED president
Let’s read Jarred’s statement: it’s a really, really slow train now so it’s gonna take a while to get enough of our troops back to start making enough volume to blast out to dealers and the world but the good news is to pass that time and keep our skeleton crew busy, in 2 weeks I’m gonna start selling some crazy colored Komodos to my friends and anyone else who wants to be a little “different”. Super limited low quantities. Will make just a handful per week till the stormtroopers are ready. Email me if you’re interested”.
Price: Colored for $7,000, regular for $6,000
According to RED, The price of the Komodo is $6,000. However, keep in mind this is the price of the regular model (black). The price of the colored Komodo – special made (including the stormtroopers) is $7,000. We’ve expected a lower price than that, however, it seems that RED has further developed the Komodo to include more stuff and better specs. Moreover, Jarred says that everything got way more expensive due to the pandemic.
Discount for Hydrogen owners
It seems that Hydrogen owners will get a discount. However, this discount does not relevant for the special edition Komodos, but for the regular Komodos. The discount will be calculated after this first batch when the Komodos can be ordered from the website. According to RED, there will be a signup form on the website that Hydrogen/ Houdini owners will enter the phone’s serial number to apply the discount.
