Venus Optics announces the availability of the 1.33x Rear Anamorphic Adapter and 1.4x Full Frame Expander. Those new products will enhance the cinematic look of its Laowa OOOM 25- 100mm T2.9, and more lenses. Explore them below.
Laowa 1.33x Rear Anamorphic Adapter
When pairing with the OOOM, Laowa 1.33X Rear Anamorphic Adapter allows expanding it to a 2.35:1 cinematic widescreen ratio in a 16:9 sensor while retaining the resolution. Although it does not produce oval bokeh and expands the horizontal field of view as front anamorphic lenses do, it still introduces cinematic characters over your spherical lenses and creates a distinctive look on the flares and bokeh. There will be a half-stop light impact on the lens after the anamorphic adapter is installed.
Special anamorphic characteristics?
So, if this anamorphic adapter will not grant you the acclaimed flare and oval bokeh, what does it do and why should you use it? Well, it hard to define, but if you take a look at the video below, you’ll notice the special cinematic enhancement and characteristics that are resulted from installing this adapter on an approved glass. It definitely does something, and it’s pretty stunning (depends on what story you’d like to tell). Check it out below:
Laowa 1.4x Full Frame Expander
The Laowa 1.4X Full Frame Expander expands the coverage from Super35 into full-frame without affecting its image quality. Outstanding from other expanders in the market, the Laowa 1.4x Expander is designed to offset the aberrations found on the OOOM , making it a 35-140mm T4 lens and maintains its vintage characters and optical performance.
Furthermore, Laowa specially designed a back-focus-adjusting mechanism on the 1.4x Expander which replaces the time-consuming and tedious procedure of back focus adjustments with shims. There will be a 1-stop light loss and 1.4x impact on the focal range, making OOOM a 35-140mm T4 lens. A quick switch button is designed on the OOOM to allow easy conversion of focal length & t-stop scale.
Compatibility
The Laowa 1.33x Rear Anamorphic Adapter and 1.4x Full Frame Expander can be used with other cine lenses in the market. See slide below:
Price and availability
The recommended retail price in the United States is $1,000 per product or $1,800 for a bundle (Expander + Adapter). The Frame Expander and the Anamorphic Adapter are currently available to order on the official website of Venus Optics.
Final thoughts
The Anamorphic Adapter and the Full-Frame Expander are both products that allow you the privilege of more cinematic options of compatible glass, especially the OOOM. The Anamorphic Adapter is the most intriguing since it grants special characters to the glass, bringing it to behave like a whole new lens.
What do you think about those products? Would you use them on your compatible lens?
In what base you are saying it’s price is $1000 ? On B&H price is $5000
