Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Gets RGB Histogram

Blackmagic Design releases its Camera 7.3 Update which adds built-in LCD calibration, color channel clipping indicators, and more. Also, 4K DCI Blackmagic RAW recording has been added to Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. But check out this beautiful RGB histogram.

Blackmagic Camera 7.3 Update

This software update adds built-in LCD calibration, an upgraded RGB histogram, color channel clipping indicators, and false-color guide display to Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, 6K, and 6K Pro models. It also adds support for timecode via XLR mic inputs and improved autofocus and active lens control. Blackmagic Camera 7.3 update also adds support for generation 5 color science, LCD screen dimming, and Blackmagic RAW Q1 and Q3 constant quality recording to Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and 6K models. Additionally, 4K DCI Blackmagic RAW recording has been added to Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K.

RGB histogram

The coolest upgrade is the RED-style RGB histogram. At the bottom left of your camera’s touchscreen, you can see the histogram. The RGB histogram shows the tonal distribution of the image separated into individual red, green and blue channels.  When clipping occurs in the red, green, or blue channel, the respective indicator on the right side of the histogram lights up. That indication allows you greater accuracy in reading color channels so adjustments and corrections can be made while shooting.

The following models have new features

Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, 6K, and 6K Pro:

  1. Upgrades the luminance histogram to RGB histogram
  2. Adds color channel clipping indicators
  3. Adds false-color guide display
  4. Adds LCD screen calibration settings
  5. Improves autofocus and active lens control
  6. Improves focus peaking visibility
  7. Fixes an issue with importing LUT’s and Presets
  8. Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and 6K:
  9. Adds support for Generation 5 color science.
  10. Adds support for LCD screen dimming for power conservation.
  11. Adds Q1 and Q3 Blackmagic RAW recording options

  • Fixes bug that can cause image misalignment

What’s new in Blackmagic RAW 2.0

  1. Adds support for Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K

  3. Updates to Blackmagic Generation 5 Color Science
  4. Adds DaVinci Wide Gamut and DaVinci Intermediate gamma support
  5. Adds support for Nikon Z 6II and Z 7II Blackmagic RAW clips captured by Blackmagic Video Assist
  6. General performance and stability improvements
