Vision Research has just introduced its new member of the VEO family, the 610 model. The VEO 610 owns a Super 35 sized sensor with a global shutter, and it’s capable of shooting up to 5,620 FPS (Frames Per Second) on HD resolution (1280 x 960) at a bitrate of 6.75 Gpx/sec.

Phantom VEO 610: “Budget-friendly entry price”

Since 1950, Vision Research has been designing and manufacturing high-speed cameras which are dedicated to industrial and scientific use. However, these cameras have been heavily utilized by filmmakers for ultra-high-speed imaging by implementing the trademarked Vision Research’s mantra: “When it is too fast to see, and too important not to”. Lately, the company has been releasing new cameras like cupcakes, focusing on a new family called VEO. The VEO cameras are more compact in order to facilitate operation. Meet the VEO 610 which is the newest member of the VEO product family. According to Vision Research: “The 610 provides the superior image performance of the VEO 1010 and 1310, at 6.75 Gpx/second throughput and at a budget-friendly entry price”. The VEO 610 can be upgraded to a VEO 1010 or 1310 in the future for higher frame rate capability.

5,610 FPS at HD,  Super 35 sensor + global shutter

Vision Research claims that the VEO 610 is ideal for all-around high-speed motion analysis in the lab or in the field. It is well suited to work with a variety of optics – everything from microscopes to 35mm lenses. “Take advantage of the VEO Canon mount for remote focus and aperture control through PCC software. The compact VEO camera design is ideal for multi-camera setups used in Digital Image Correlation and other advanced imaging techniques” it states. The custom 1.2 Mpx sensor provides allows imaging at 6.75 Gpx/second throughput capturing over 5,610 fps at full resolution and over 20,800 fps at 640 x 480. This range of frame rates is a great starting point for applications such as material testing, particle imaging, and general high-speed motion implementations.

Elevated light sensitivity

Shooting at ultra-high speed demands superior lighting conditions. Vision Research says that the excellent light sensitivity of the VEO 1310 is now readily available in the VEO 610 with a native daylight sensitivity of ISO 25,000 (mono). This VEO includes the low noise of 10 electrons to provide detailed dark environment imaging with less supplemental light. Phantom binning mode is included for a boost in frame rate and ISO at lower resolutions.

Mounts

Lens mounts options – Nikon F, PL, C, and Canon EF (with electronic control) make for increased application and imaging flexibility by allowing the camera to adapt to high quality and advanced optics that are often required to get the best data of the subject at hand.

Structure and design

All Phantom VEO cameras utilize the same base housing, and compact and rugged design at 6 lbs (2.7 kg) milled out of aluminum with sealed components to ensure the camera will continue to perform in harsh outdoor and range environments. As a result, VEO cameras are known for their reliability.
