The FR7 is Netflix Approved

Sony’s new Cinema Pan-Tilt-Zoom Camera, the FR7, is now on the Netflix-approved camera list. Unlike other PTZ cameras, the FR7 is a cinema camera equipped with a full-frame image sensor, 15 stops of dynamic range, the ability to change lenses, and built-in pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) functionality. The FR7 was introduced in September 2022 as the world’s first cinema full-frame PTZ camera to grant the cinematic look & feel in broadcasting. As there’s a debate about whether PTZ cameras have a valid space in cinematography, according to Sony, the FR7 was implemented in high-end productions. As stated by Sony: “Since its launch, the FR7 has been combined with the Sony VENICE and VENICE 2 to capture countless live concerts for streamers, including The Weeknd at Sofi Stadium, Lady Gaga at Dodger Stadium, Elton John at Dodger Stadium, Foo Fighters Taylor Hawkins Show, Rock, and Rock Hall of Fame and the Kendrick Lamar Live from Paris show”.

Shooting a Netflix Original with PTZ?

Head of Live Production, Sony Europe elaborated back then: “ The cinematic look and feel is fast becoming the norm in broadcasting and lives production as it opens up new ways to tell a narrative. In parallel, especially in the last 2 years, we’ve seen a steep rise in content created remotely or in small locations where access is difficult. This new camera, the FR7, will answer both these trends in the market with its PTZ and Cinematic features”. Now, it appears that Netflix has been convinced since it authorizes to shoot a full 4K Original with it. Explore below the FR7 Netflix Camera Production Guide:
