MC8020 Live Broadcast Cinema Camera System

The MC8020 is the next generation 4K Live Broadcast Camera System introduced based on the self-developed Edge high-performance platform by Kinefinity. Its  4K EFP system is capable of outputting 4K HDR and 2K HD, delivering cinematic and high-quality images with vivid color and remarkable clarity in broadcast. MC8020 can also switch from 4K EFP to 4K ENG/Cine mode to achieve non-live content production thanks to the Edge high-performance platform which it is based on.

Live 8K HDR broadcasting

To address the current scenario involving various standards of live production, from 2K HD to 8K HDR, the MC8020 is already equipped for 8K HDR production. Without requiring the purchase of additional hardware, the MC8020 can accomplish both live 8K EFP production and non-live 8K ENG production via a straightforward software upgrade.

New KineOS 7.2 Firmware

After nearly a year, Kinefinity is taking the stage with the new KineOS 7.2 firmware as described below:

ExFAT file system

This firmware update introduces a significant change – adopting the versatile and efficient exFAT file system. With optimized and improved logic, this exFAT file system is tailor-made for cinema camera workflow and film production, allowing seamless recording of high-resolution, high-frame-rate 8K/6K video. Compared to previous file systems, it offers a notable 20%-30% boost in maximum write speed, ensuring smoother footage capture. The universal exFAT file system also resolves compatibility issues between Windows and MAC systems, enhancing convenience for both on-set and post-production workflows. No ProRes RAW update though.

Pre-Roll Feature

In addition to the file system upgrade, KineOS 7.2 introduces the highly anticipated pre-recording feature. With 6 seconds of 8K 25P ProRes4444 or 30 seconds of 4K 25P ProRes4444 pre-recording duration, creators will never miss those unpredictable and critical moments. Whether capturing wildlife in nature or exciting moments in live sports events, this feature adds convenience and reliability to important on-location shoots.

New Control SideGrip

The new Kinefinity SideGrip was unveiled at last month’s BIRTV show and will also be showcased at the IBC Show. It offers complete functionality and is designed to meet the requirements of lightweight, handheld production. The SideGrip shares the same record/stop trigger and provides control over shooting parameters and menu navigation as the Kinefinity monitor/ viewfinder. Additionally, this SideGrip introduces focus, iris, and zoom control, enabling manipulation of PL/EF/E mount lenses, and delivering an intuitive and convenient shooting experience. Crafted from rosewood for exceptional ergonomics, it provides a more pleasant tactile experience. The SideGrip is compatible with MAVO Edge 8K/MAVO Edge 6K/MAVO mark2 LF/MAVO mark2 S35 cameras running KineOS 7.2 firmware, this control SideGrip is scheduled for an official launch later this year.
