Made for “high-end, large format cinematography”

The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K was introduced a week ago. “With the new Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K, we wanted to create the most portable camera possible for high-end, large format cinematography,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “That’s why we took the Pocket Cinema Camera platform but completely re-engineered the electronics inside around a full-frame sensor and L-Mount. This means our customers get amazing large-format images in an extremely portable design that also works with the accessories they already own. The L-Mount also opens up some amazing creative options like using the latest Leica lenses or using vintage lenses customers already own in an entirely new way. This is a truly high-end cinema camera designed for high-end work and we think it gives our customers a whole new way to tell their stories!”. The key features of the camera are:

  1. 36 x 24mm full frame 6K 6048 x 4032 sensor. (There are indications that the sensor is the Sony  IMX410, which is implemented in the S1h, S1, S5, and S5x, MAVO LF, Ronin 4D, Sigma FP, Zcam F6, and more).
  2. Open gate 3:2, full height 6:5 anamorphic, and Super 35 for creating cinematic content.
  3. L-Mount which is compatible with a wide range of still photography and cinema lenses.
  4. Records full resolution up to 36 fps or 120 fps windowed.
  5. High-speed CFexpress card recording.
  6. Adjustable, HDR 1500 nit LCD screen.
  7. Optional Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Pro EVF.
  8. Larger NP-F570 battery, optional Blackmagic Pocket Camera Battery Pro Grip.

Test footage

The camera has been tested by a few cinematographers. Below you can find all the videos shot on the Cinema Camera 6K. On the Blackmagic website, you can download the original footage (ungraded). Unfortunately, we were unable to embed the videos from the Blackmagic website. Hence, we embedded the YT videos, plus linked them to the other graded footage. It’s essential to watch these videos on a desktop computer. Do not read this article on mobile devices, but watch the videos on a desktop in full-screen mode. Enjoy:
