A recorded cinematography accident went viral. Stuff broke: Scorpio mini crane, Filmotechnic Flight Head Mini, Scorpio Arm, Angenieux Optimo Lens, and ARRI ALEXA Mini. A total potential damage of $100,00 (not including the camera). Watch this disaster below:
A ‘Cinematography Accident’
The video, which went viral, shows a car sequence being filmed, and suddenly the Filmotechnic Flight Head Mini on the Filmotechnic U-Crane hits a lamppost, which strikes the ARRI ALEXA Mini camera that was detached and fell from the bridge. That’s well over $100,000 in damage. The aftermath shows that the PL mount is OK, however, the lens was almost wholly a total loss (almost). We don’t know the status of the camera though. Watch it below – wait for the aftermath (uploaded by Cine Gear Factory):
And this is what happened to the Angenieux Optimo:
Update
Here’s more info about the accident as stated by filmmaker Christian Petersen-Clausen, who shot the accident: “This is going around my social media circle in Shanghai today. It’s one of only two Russian Arms available in the city. The location is Nanpu Bridge onramp crossing the Huangpu River, right in the center of town. It’s a massive bridge and the onramp is seriously high up in the air, so this was a big fall. The victims are an Alexa and an Angenieux Optimo, I think the 25-250. Thankfully nobody below the bridge was hurt. insurance for productions in China is often handled through HK and at best iffy. chances are they will fix the arm themselves. rental houses here are the OG hustlers. The guys operating that stuff won’t get into much trouble. the boss will end up paying dearly but with so little competition for this highly-specialized gear, they are doing great business in Shanghai”. Regarding the ALEXA, Christian says: “It’s either being used for parts or ARRI Munich will try to fix it and make a video about it”.
Stop calling it a “russian arm”. It is not russian, has no relation to russia at all and is abusive to it’s founders – who are Filmotechnic as company and Kokush as a person – both from Ukraine. It is called U-Crane by Filmotechnic themself, so please, stop calling it russian. It has no relation to russia at all.
Corrected. Thx.
Yossy
Shut the fuck up. We will call it whatever we want. Who the fuck are you to tell people what to call something?
And in walks the cunt….
You really are a cunt
Ah the little man walks in the room! Hello little man! James, your village is calling you even 2 years later.
You gotta tell filmotechnic how to properly call their products :

the most critical question is NOT: Did they get that shot?
but should be: Did someone got hurt?
Expensif gear can always be replaced by new Expensif gear… 😉
STRONGLY agree with Lou here.
Prioritizing “the shot” over safety is what has led to so many needless tragedies.
Hopefully they can monetize that video that so earnings from views will offset the cost of the damaged gear.
