This is an essential update for all Premiere Pro users that edit on MCP. Adobe has released a new PP version (13.0.3) that deals with the critical malfunction (bug) who permanently blew out some MacBook Pro speakers. If you are a PP user, it’s highly recommended that you download the new version now regardless of the type of OS/ computer.
Previously we reported here on an Adobe’s forum thread started on November, showed an unusual issue while editing on Premiere: The MacBook Pro speakers were permanently damaged while trying to manipulate sound on a Premiere Pro project.
MacBook Pro speakers were blown out
Users with both versions of Adobe Premiere Pro CC (13.0.1 and 13.0.2) reported on blown MacBook Pro speakers leading to $600 damage repair. Additionally, seems that the issue is primarily affecting the 15-inch MacBook Pro models released in 2018. Read further about this malfunction.
Premiere Pro version 13.0.3 bugs fixed
Anyway, months after this discussion was started, Adobe is releasing an update in order to (hopefully) solve that situation.
As stated by Adobe’s staff: ”Adobe had a small number of user reports about an issue in Premiere Pro that could affect the speakers in the latest MacBook Pro. Adobe has released a patch via the Creative Cloud app to help address this issue. Please update to 13.0.3.”

Accordion to the release note, the version addresses a few audio-sound manipulation issues as described:
- Extremely loud noise when playing a project and adding an effect
- Crash or a screeching sound when switching between EQ presets in Essential Sound > Dialogue during playback
- Audio buzzing across a transition when routing audio to multiple track outputs with effects
- Audio output buzzing when playing silence with an effect on a submix track
This update implies the possibility that this malfunction was caused by Premiere since Adobe admits, by releasing this update, that the software suffered from some audio issues. However, no words from Apple, yet.
Im a MacBook (2016) and premier user and i have a blown speaker! Who is responsible for this mess?!
Technically, Adobe. Legally, it depends. I don’t see it being solved unless it will go between the walls of the court.
[…] product management methodology). Users are complaining about tons of crashes. MacBooks speakers were blown out due to sound design bug, and now the limitation of the version […]
Wow I had to replace the speakers on my MBP 15″ as well. I had no idea it was using PP that caused the issue. I have since moved on to DR16. It took some getting used to with the nodes, but wow, I thought we’d need new machines but the performance boost I got with DR means we are using the same hardware.
