Another NAB announcements. This time from Teradek which presents the Bolt 4K wireless video system that is capable of transmitting 4K HDR image with zero latency (less than 1 ms delay). Read below.
Wireless 4K 10-bit 4:2:2: HDR video
Bolt 4K transmits 10-bit 4:2:2 HDR video at a range of up to 1500 feet. For HDR workflows, Bolt 4K supports the HDR-10, PQ, and HLG standards and can transport extended camera metadata, timecode, and record triggers over the wireless link.
Ten years of R&D
According to Teradek, the Bolt 4K has been developed for ten years thanks to the acquisition of Amimon. The device offers X8 massive signal reliability of previous HD models, X1.5 more range, and superior image quality. The secret sauce of the Bolt 4K is a particular chip inside that allows transmitting of Xx8 more information.
Bolt 4K defines a revolutionary new category of wireless video technology, delivering uncompressed 2160p60 HDR video transmission with zero delays
There are two models: The Bolt 4K 750 and Bolt 4K 1500.
Zero delay
As stated by Teradek, “Bolt 4K defines a revolutionary new category of wireless video technology, delivering uncompressed 2160p60 HDR video transmission with zero delays”. The device supports HLG, PQ and HDR-10 standards for HDR workflow compatibility.
Advanced encryption
The Bolt 4K owns AES-256 encryption and RSA 1024 key pairing, to prevent any decryption of the wireless feed.
Free iOS app
To further simplify the use of wireless video on set, Teradek launched a free iOS application to manage and monitor every parameter of Bolt 4K in real-time via Bluetooth. The application assists in monitoring signal and interferences.
Price and availability
Bolt 4K will begin shipping on June 2019 for $3,990 (Bolt 4K 750) and $7,990 (Bolt 4K 1500).
Final thoughts
The Bolt 4K can be used efficiently by focus pullers or ACs that would like to judge imagery in a more precise way. There is no doubt that focus pulling via 4K monitor should be more accurate. If you can shoot 4k, you probably will prefer transmitting your footage with the same resolution wirelessly.
