Although Y.M.Cinema Magazine is all about digital cinema, and indeed we previously wrote about the new Leica Q2 Full Frame. However, these rare cameras are far from being cinema related, but still, we are happy to inform you about this as a refreshing footnote. This collection consists of three rare Leica cameras that are being auctioned on June 8 in Germany. Explore more about them below.
Leica MP2 Black ($500,000)
Made in 1958, the Leica M2 is equipped with a special electric motor drive that is capable of 3.5 pictures per second. Only 15 MP2 cameras are known to exist, around half of these complete with original Leica Motor and battery pack. It is one of the rarest and most special Leica cameras to offer in the auction.

Leica 250 GG Reporter ($400,000)
Made in 1942, the camera features a 1/1000 sec exposure speed that was the fastest exposure speed that has been adopted for the Leica 250 as early as 1936. Many of these cameras were lost in the air battles and only around 15 examples are known to exist today.

Leica M3 Chrome ($400,000)
The M3 Chrome was made in 1954. The camera no.700005 has never been restored and it has got all the new features. It is in beautiful, original condition and – after 66 years now – still in perfect working order.
The auction will be held at the Leitz Photographica Auction on 8th June in Wetzlar, Germany. More information can be found on their website.
To buy those cameras, you will need to invest more than 1 million USD. Think about this: one camera costs as much as four ALEXA 65! Who said that cinema cameras are expensive? RED MONSTRO anyone?
