Apple has released a new version of its DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software, Logic Pro X. The latest version, 10.4.5, allows utilizing Logic to meet the Mac Pro capabilities and thus to let music producers the speed, efficiency, and freedom they need to create soundtracks.

Mac Pro + Logic Pro X: 2000 audio and software instrument tracks

Apple’s DAW was one of the main items presented to impress the audiences at WWDC.

Logic Pro X 10.4.5 new version has shown onstage running 2,000 audio and software instrument tracks on the new Mac Pro, without delays and without dropping sounds.  That was quite an immersive demonstration.

The ability to edit so many tracks is essential to the composting process. Sometimes, a soundtrack can be built from hundreds of instrument channel strips. This number can go easily higher when external midi and audio channel are being added.

Mixing and mastering so many tracks is another story. However, if you can compose 1000 instruments, you defiantly can master them.

Apple says that the new version of Logic is optimized to the new Mac Pro, as stated by Apple: “With the new Mac Pro, Logic can now run up to five times the number of real-time plug-ins compared to the previous generation Mac Pro. Logic Pro X 10.4.5 increases the available track and channel count for all users, now supporting up to 1,000 audio tracks and 1,000 software instrument tracks, providing four times the number of available tracks for the most complex productions”.

Conclusions

It’s nice to reveal that dominant Apple’s applications are being optimized for the Mac Pro. It’s important to note that Apple’s Logic was not defined as the most advanced DAW in the music industry since there are more widely used DAWs like Ableton and Pro Tools. However, the new upgrade combined with the Mac Pro creates an insanely powerful audio workstation for music producers. Let’s hope Apple will do the same concerning FCPX.

Have you produced music on Logic? Let’s know your thoughts regarding the combination of the new Mac Pro with Logic Pro X 10.4.5.
