The RED Komodo PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus) was revealed on Jared Land’s (RED president) Instagram, showing pretty nice capabilities. Furthermore, the picture regarding the interface is getting clearer. Watch the screenshots below.
RED Komodo is still under development
Although there is not an official release date, it seems that the Komodo is still under development. We believe that RED’s engineers are focusing on sharpening the firmware adding more stuff and capabilities to it. However, the lockdown due to the COVID-19 delicate situation will make things a bit more complicated concerning the development phase of the camera. Plus, it’s not a good time to release a new camera. However, it’s the perfect time to elevate the specs, adding more features to the Komodo that will pay off in the long run.
Komodo first footage
In our recent article (RED Komodo: Where are the Sample Footage) we asked for some footage of this new, unique and affordable camera by RED. Happily, RED has been listening and provided a short video of Bradd Pitt shot on the Komodo. Although it looks quite neat, it’s hard to judge the true image quality of it. Check it out below:

I dont expect much from the autofocus when this comes out but its exciting to see another company invest in AF. Imaging how good it will be in a few years with these companies competing against each other. ….(BTW type-o “Just am hour ago”)
