The forthcoming Z 9, which is the new flagship by Nikon, has been accidentally spotted at the Olympics. This is the first time the back of the camera is revealed, exposing an interface that reminds us of a combination of other Nikon’s top cameras. Also at the Olympics, a Canon EOS R3 shooter demonstrates its 30FPS photo burst capabilities. Read on.

Nikon Z 9: First rear look

Although the Canon EOS R3 is being popped here and there, Nikon has managed to maintain a top-secret approach regarding its anticipated flagship, the Z 9, until now. Photolari, which is a camera Spanish site, has done a pretty solid intelligence job, by catching a photo of the back of the Nikon Z 9. Those pictures were taken at the Tokyo Olympics, which turned out to be an ideal experiment lab for testing new cameras (obviously).

The specs of the Nikon Z 9 are yet to be revealed and are kept under secrecy. However, according to Nikon, this camera is being heavily and meticulously tested, due to the high market expectation. Nikon has defined the Z 9 as: “The best still and video performance camera in Nikon’s history”. The conformed specs are: Newly developed FXFX-format stacked sensor, new image-processing engine, and of course, 8K video recording capabilities. There are rumors circulating around a high megapixel count (45MP), however, we heard the same regarding the Canon EOS R3. Take those rumors with a grain of salt.

Canon EOS R3 30FPS bursting capabilities

The Canon EOS R3 is being heavily tested in the Olympics by several photographers. Although some pictures have been uploaded, there’re no videos yet. It seems that most of the testers are photographers, rather than videographers/cinematographers, and that’s unfortunate. Nevertheless, the closest EOS R3 output to video is its bursting capabilities, shared by photographer Atiba Jefferson. This 30FPS photo sequence shows some skateboard action shots. Watch it below:

How much MP?

The internet was exploded with MP (Megapixel) assumptions regarding the Canon EOS R3 megapixel count. Some pictures taken by acclaimed photographer, Jeff Cable, showed the metadata which indicated on a ‘disappointing’ 24MP sensor. However, this metadata can be easily manipulated by editing, and/or by changing the camera setting. So, basically, it doesn’t tell us anything. We’ve reached Cable for a comment, but he refused.
