Now, Blackmagic has announced a new lower price on the camera, from $10,000 to $6,000, which is a 40% drop overnight. It’s not so common that a camera manufacturer drops its flagship’s price by 40%. That business move can shake up the entire lineup.
With this new low price for Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K, a much wider range of customers will have access to feature film production.

According to Blackmagic, this price reduction has been made possible by efficiencies in manufacturing combined with an improved supply of 12K sensors. Furthermore, Blackmagic wants to make high resolution more accessible for the mass market. As stated by the company: “This is an exciting innovation because it transforms high-resolution workflows and makes them much lower cost. With this new low price for Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K, a much wider range of customers will have access to feature film production”. However, not all Blackmagic shooters are satisfied. Same price of lower models: Maybe because of Netflix?
That price reduction makes the flagship URSA 12K costs exactly the same as lower-end models like the URSA 4.6K. So why buying those if you can purchase the flagship at the same price? Well, Netflix might be the only reason. The older models (URSA Mini 4.6K, URSA Mini Pro 4.6K, and URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2) are approved by Netflix. The URSA Pro 12K isn’t. According to Netflix, they are working with Blackmagic Design to address the known issues affecting the URSA 12K status as a Netflix-approved camera.
