Pocket 6K Pro + Telescope (1350mm lens)

A few months ago, we wrote about the stargazers brothers, Zander and Elliot, who are also independent filmmakers, that utilized the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro to capture the moon at 6K BRAW. (Read: Capturing the Moon With the Blackmagic Pocket 6K Pro). Now, when their short is ready, we proudly present the final result…and it’s marvelous! The short film called  OVER THE MOON demonstrates the capabilities of the BMPCC 6K Pro to capture high detailed images in very low light environments. As described, the results are stunning and very unique.

As you’ll see, it was a very stripped back and modest shoot from a gear and lighting perspective, making it a really great field test for the camera.

BRAW 8:1 and 4,000 ISO

OVER THE MOON was shot on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro in BRAW at 8:1 compression. Here’s what the filmmakers had to say about the technical phase of the project: “As you’ll see, it was a very stripped back and modest shoot from a gear and lighting perspective, making it a really great field test for the camera. The 6K Pro has plenty of firepower making it a potent little guerrilla indie camera while also holding its own as a fully kitted out pro cinema camera. Its low light capability allowed us to shoot through dusk in continually falling light and use the BRAW and low noise floor to capture shockingly noiseless/grainless footage. On this short, we were able to shoot all the way up to 4000ISO with a bit of gentle noise removal in DaVinci Resolve”.

Closing thoughts

OVER THE MOON is an example of a pretty simple independent project that almost every talented filmmaker can execute. This statement is logical from a technical point of view. Hence, the idea is truly simple and brilliant. This short film demonstrates the clean image of the BMPCC 6K Pro, and its decent low light capabilities. For instance, you can reveal the cinematic macro shots, and the very detailed moon shots. Furthermore, faces also look beautiful and artistic. OVER THE MOON is a short that deserves to be screened on the big screen. Do yourself a favor and watch it on your biggest screen with 4K resolution.
