What if Apple design its own dedicated professional camera? Well, ADR Studio Design throws a few ideas into the air. Meet the Apple ProCam: A fictional Apple’s first 8K professional camera.
Apple (fictional!) 8K professional camera
This concept was created by ADR Studio Design and revealed by PetaPixel. First, it must be noted that this is a fictional camera. The design was made solely by ADR Studio Design without any partnership with Apple. Hence, this is a purely fictional design model. Let’s take a closer look.
Hasselblad’s inspiration
This is obvious that the inspiration for that design was based on Hasselblad models. The structure, functionality (big touch screen), and large sensor are a part of it. The fictional camera incorporates Apple’s mount that can be adapted to Apple’s cameras that are implemented in the recent models of the iPhone. Moreover, there’s a possibility to remove the cameras and to expose the large sensor in order to attach a ‘real’ and professional lens to it.
Cube-style design: 8K capabilities
The camera shares a popular and modern cube-style design which is again, was inspired by Hasselblad’s concept and many other cinema cameras (RED Komodo, Panasonic’s cinema boxy models, and so on). According to the design, the camera is capable of taking pictures and video, both in 8K resolution.
Here’re the basic features of the camera (just a reminder – it’s ALL fictional):
- The first 8K Professional Camera by Apple
- Innovative lenses with Apple Mount
- Siri on-board
- StyleWriter Compact Ink-less Printing
- Powered by M1
- Touch and Tilt Rear Display
- Magic Wheel with Touch Screen Button
And even there’s a marketing video about it (made by ADR Studio Design). Watch it below:
Closing thoughts
Let’s talk a bit about the chances that Apple goes that pathway of developing its own professional camera, or even a cinema camera. First, Apple has the resources of doing it, in all aspects (financially and knowledge-based). But why should it? Apple is investing a ton of R&D in order to sharpen its iPhone’s filmmaking capabilities. However, the iPhone has a physical limitation. For instance, you can’t implement a large sensor inside an iPhone. Large sensor demands more power, better heat management apparatus, and ecosystem to support it. Moreover, a smartphone can’t be paired with a professional lens. Thus, this design makes a lot of sense from a functionality point of view. To sum it up, it raises the question of whether Apple will introduce a professional camera in the future. Well, it might. And it can look very similar to that design.
