After the embarrassing announcement regarding the elimination of ProRes RAW of the Ronin 4D, DJI has put together some impressive short film which was shot in one-take entirely on its flagship by the acclaimed cinematographer Xiaoshi Zhao. Watch it below:
The new marketing strategy continues
Learned from Apple, DJI has been recruiting top-tier cinematographers to show off the capabilities of their new sophisticated toys. In that case, acclaimed cinematographer Xiaoshi Zhao has taken the Ronin 4D for a spin to shoot a one-take short film, demonstrating the kinetic and stabilization abilities of the DJI Ronin 4D. As stated by DJI: “Award-winning cinematographer Xiaoshi Zhao wanted to put his creative spin on a short film while testing the new DJI Ronin 4D. So, he created a storyline that fluidly transformed from one shot to another – using the 4-Axis stabilization on the DJI Ronin 4D to make it as smooth as can be”.
One-take: Utilizing the Ronin 4D
It seems that the Ronin 4D was built for one-take scenarios. The LiDAR Focus Control, focus pulling mechanism, built-in touch screen with improved GUI, and of course the Z-axis stabilization technology, facilitate the operation of one-take scenes, as it can be performed by one operation. We can say that the Ronin 4D strengthens the power of the sole operator, which makes one-take scenes much simpler. Hence, making this one-take video was a natural move by DJI, not to mention the elimination of ProRes RAW that has downgraded the specs of this interesting camera. The short film contains all kinds of shots and utilizations of the Ronin 4D which mean: Running, fast-moving shots, in-car shots, handheld-crane shifting, shooting in low-light environments, and more. And the execution? Explore it below and judge by yourself:
As for the making of this video, DJI has published the BTS, where Xiaoshi Zhao explains how the DJI Ronin 4D was able to tackle complex lighting, mounts, and scenarios to bring this creative film to life. Check it out:
Final thoughts
DJI Ronin 4D opens up more possibilities for independent filmmakers. For instance, check out this fascinating project. As for the one-take video, it looks impressive. It demands skill and accuracy which were accomplished with the help of the Ronin 4D. In my opinion, the image quality is not that good. What do you think about the video? Are you impressed?
