Here you have another intriguing project shot on the even more intriguing glass — Xelmus Apollo Anamorphics. This time it’s a Sundance-selected short film. Furthermore, Xelmus has released another 32mm anamorphic X2 lens that fits a full-frame sensor and can cover ALEXA LF Open Gate.
Shot on Apollo paired with Mini LF
The short movie Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out was shot by cinematographer Jeremy Prusso and premiered in Sundance’s Kids section. Prusso used the ARRI ALEXA Mini LF paired with a set of Xelmus Apollo Anamorphic lenses. We wrote a decent amount of articles regarding the Apollo glass since we think it has a compelling and artistic anamorphic look & feel. In an interview with Filmmaker Magazine, Prusso said that he chose the Xelmus Apollo because these lenses can fit full-frame sensors, have a fun character, and are pretty affordable. Check out some screengrabs from the project:
And here’s the trailer for the short film:
New Apollo lens
Moreover, Xelmus has introduced a new lens with a focal length of 32mm. Although this focal length is not new in the series, Xelmus designed it to cover a full-frame sensor this time. Xelmus said before that: “All Apollo line lenses are compatible with Alexa LF Full Frame Open Gate. Only 32mm lens is made for super 35 sensors”. Hence, a new 32mm was developed to grant an affordable X2 anamorphic solution for large format shooters. Here are some pictures below (now sample videos yet):
