Initial thoughts
As far as we know, ARRI is the first camera company that offers a course for disassembling a cinema camera – no technical experience is needed. Basically, ARRI claims that the course will let you know your ARRI 35, so you can resolve specific issues without sending over the camera to the factory. Furthermore, it will allow you to better maintenance of the camera, without visiting any technicians BTW, there is no word regarding the warranty. We suppose that the course ‘certifies’ you to take apart the ALEXA 35 without any conflict with the warranty’s terms and conditions. However, it was not mentioned and we are not sure about that. Moreover, the course is pretty expensive as 892.5 euros is a lot of money for an online course. Anyway, this is an interesting approach by ARRI. It will be nice to see other camera manufacturers offer this kind of initiative.
Update (25/10/23):
Regarding the warranty, here’s ARRI’s response: “All technicians who passed the Advanced Level Service Training are eligible to open the product they have been trained on and exchange parts available for Advanced Service. By doing so, the warranty of the camera will not be void. If you suspect a part is broken and shall be replaced under warranty, we would kindly ask you to send the product in for warranty repair at one of our ARRI service centers. To do so, please contact our ARRI Service at www.arri.de/service and follow their instructions”.
