TGM’s filmmakers have just released the teaser of their next project titled F1. The title and teaser appear to have both been released in the same seconds. First, it’s a ‘Filmed For IMAX’ movie, shot just like TGM (Top Gun: Maverick) but with an unknown cinema camera by Sony. Check out the teaser below.

F1- That’s the title!

F1 is an upcoming American sports action drama film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, directed by Joseph Kosinski, and shot by cinematographer Claudio Miranda. BTW, Hans Zimmer is behind the music. That would be the winning TGM (Top Gun: Maverick) team. The story is about Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a Formula One driver who raced in the 1990s and had a horrible crash, forcing him to retire from Formula One and start racing in other disciplines. A Formula One team owner and friend (Javier Bardem) contacts Hayes and asks him to come out of retirement to mentor rookie prodigy Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) on the Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP). We wrote many articles about the hypothesis of the making, wondering about the title. We thought that the film was Apex. However, the teaser was released a few hours ago by Formula 1 and IMAX, revealing the straightforward title: F1. First, let’s have a look at the IMAX teaser:

Four cinema cameras inside the F1 cockpit

As explained, the filmmakers of F1 are those who made the action masterpiece TGM (Top Gun: Maverick). Thus, the same filmmaking techniques are implemented. Moreover, the teaser demonstrates this very well. Kosinski and Miranda implemented four unknown Sony Cinema Cameras with PTZ capabilities inside the F1 (or F2) cockpit. However, as opposed to the six Sony VENICE behind TGM, those are PTZ stand-alone cameras and not Rialto units. It means that those cameras can rotate and track action, as you can see in the trailer. Moreover, Kosinski said that only four cameras could be implemented since they didn’t want to slow down the car by impairing its aerodynamic abilities. Sony hasn’t said anything about these cameras yet. This is the time to reveal some details, Sony! We know that those are 6K cameras, and it looks like an improved version of the Cinema PTZ – FR7 (which is 4K). If so, that could be a Sony Cinema Line 6K PTZ camera. Explore the screenshots below that demonstrate this realistic FOV (Field of View) just like in TGM. Anyway, it would be interesting to know more about the codec, since on TGM it wasn’t X-OCN. Maybe these new Cinema PTZ 6K have an X-OCN so the IMAX screen can get it well, as it’s a ‘Filmed For IMAX’ project.
