DaVinci Resolve Studio 15 has just become a member in the Netflix exclusive club, The Post Technology Alliance Program, together with other high-end editing and grading softwares. What does it mean? Read below.
Netflix Post Technology Alliance (PTA)
The Netflix Post Technology Alliance is a program for manufacturers of products that generate or manage any kind of sound data, image data, or metadata from production through post. Any product that meets this criterion is a candidate for the Netflix Post Technology Alliance logo, which is an exclusive mark which notifies customers of status as a program participant and compliance with Netflix’s standards and policies.
PTA’s focus includes post-production tools used to create and deliver Netflix Original shows.
Products bearing the Alliance logo are evaluated and tested to ensure they meet the technical and workflow requirements, and the manufacturers of participating products are committed to providing the highest level of innovation, support and customer service.
Membership in the Netflix Post Technology Alliance program, grants recognition of quality, service and support.
According to Netflix: “The program is an exclusive opportunity for only the best products and technologies that meet Netflix’s specifications and workflow requirements…Not all products qualify for participation in the program. Entry into the program will be driven by demand within our ecosystem. We evaluate each product on an individual basis”

DaVinci Resolve Studio 15
DaVinci Resolve Studio 15 was chosen for three of the PTA four technology categories: “Color Grading,” “Editorial” and “IMF & Media Encoding.”
By the way, Blackmagic Design’s URSA Mini 4.6K and URSA Mini Pro were also have been chosen before to be a part of the alliance’s “Camera” category.
It’s not surprising that DV Resolve Studio was chosen. Actually this software was massively developed and upgraded during a very short period. The software offers users a whole package of post production goodies, and owns a lot of capabilities in term of editing, grading, sound designing, mastering and even special effects (Fusion) in one software. We wrote about DaVinci Resolve achievements before regarding the Engineering Excellence Award by the Hollywood Professional Association. DaVinci Resolve 15 designed to provide a full suite of post-production tools, from ingest to delivery, directly integrated in a single ecosystem, includes significant improvements in quality, functionality and time to delivery, and Now the guys at Netflix have realized that.

FCPX is not on the list
What we see is a massive presence of Blackmagic Design products (software and cameras), even in the edit section which is quite a surprise, since it’s DaVinci Resolve Achilles Heel. In my opinion DaVinci Resolve lacks the stamina for intense editing and complex timeline, since it crashes rapidly. Also more surprising is the absence of FCPX (Final Cut 10) from the list.
This is a bit strange since FCPX is far more stable editing software than DaVinci.
Final thoughts
There is no doubt that DaVinci Resolve 15 deserves to be a part of PTA. But what about FCPX? Also what about RED Raven and Scarlet?
