BRAW

In addition, URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 can capture Blackmagic RAW images in both film and extended video modes. We wrote here in-depth articles about Blackmagic’s new codec (BRAW) compared to other codecs like CinemaDNG and ProRes RAW.

USB-C expansion port

URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 also includes a new high speed USB-C expansion port for adding accessories such as an SSD for external recording. This allows to record directly onto the same external disks that are used for editing and color correction.

Final thoughts

The major improvement here is definitely the high-speed capabilities (300 FPS is indeed a significant enhancement compared to the previous 120 FPS), although it’s limited to full HD. Apart from this, the new generation is very similar to the first. Is it worth upgrading? We don’t think so. As the Blackmagic cinema cameras have been suffering from reliability issues, hopefully, the new electronics and second generation cinema cameras like the URSA Mini Pro will make them more robust and reliable for tough productions. Furthermore, we need to see some high FPS footage in order to examine image quality.

What are your thoughts about this new URSA Mini Pro? Let’s know in the comments section below.
