We wrote here before regarding Avengers: Endgame cinematography immediately after the first trailer was launched. The film was shot exactly like his big brother, utilizing the special combination of IMAX and ARRI 65.

100% IMAX: 26% more picture

The directors of the film, the Russo Brothers, have announced that INFINITY WAR part 1 and part 2 will be shot entirely using IMAX and ARRI’s 2D digital camera, which is a joint customized digital version of ARRI’s large format camera, the Alexa 65. The results are extraordinary images and 26% more picture when projected at IMAX theaters.

IMAX vs “regular” video comparison

For the first time, IMAX has released a YouTube video shows side by side comparison between regular projection versus the IMAX projection. The results are significantly noticeable. Check out the video below to explore the comparison:

ALEXA 65 & IMAX merged together: Rare combination

The partnership between IMAX and ARRI has been announced before, and it allows magnificent customization of the ALEXA 65 system for use on IMAX productions. The ALEXA 65mm camera has been utilized by IMAX technology thanks to business and creative partnership between ARRI and IMAX for use by today’s leading filmmakers working in the IMAX® format. As IMAX explains, Endgame is only the second movie in history to be shot entirely using their cameras (Infinity War was actually the first), so the bigger picture will be present for the entire film (unlike in the past when IMAX was used only for certain scenes).
