Well, that’s not a Russian Arm per se, but the affordable RADICAL arm from MotoCrane that was attached to MKBHD’s Tesla. Hence, transforming the Testa into an epic pursuit system armed with the RED V-Raptor. Check it out below.

MotoCrane RADICAL: Turn any car to a pursuit system

The beast attached to the Tesla is the new affordable arm from MotoCrane titled RADICAL. The MotoCrane RADICAL is a universal remote arm designed to create impressive dynamic camera movements for filmmakers and cinematographers. RADICAL can turn any car, SUV, truck, UTV, or boat into a powerful filmmaking tool.

45lbs/20kg payload capacity

Featuring newly developed powertrains for the Swing and Lift axes, RADICAL has the torque to swing camera packages 360° in less than 6 seconds at vehicle speeds over 90mph/145kph. With 12 feet of reach, and available 45lbs/20kg payload capacity- RADICAL is optimized for compact cinema packages on the DJI Ronin 2, MoVI Pro, Shotover G1, etc. For off-road applications, available INS 2 Advanced Stabilization adds active gyro stabilization to the arm for maintaining lens height on rough terrain.

Modular design

The system features lightweight, modular construction for traveling anywhere in the world as checked baggage, with each Flight Case weighing less than 70lbs fully loaded. It’s very similar to the Ghost One by Top Crane that we’ve reported previously (Read: Meet Ghost One: 20-Foot Remote Arm (80lb Payload) That can be Mounted on Your Car). However, the RADICAL is much more affordable with an initial price tag of $10,000 to $23,000. Watch the demo below:

Turning a Tesla into a Hollywood camera car

This project was created by YouTuber Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) for his car reviews. MKBHD used a Ronin and RED V-Raptor as the camera system. “It’s time to revamp the way we shoot car reviews. Thanks to our friends at MotoCrane, Brandon won’t have to hang out of the back of a minivan anymore” said MKBHD.

It’s time to revamp the way we shoot car reviews.

MKBHD

Watch the video below that shows the MotoCrane team assembling the RADICAL system on the Tesla. There’s a few seconds of sample footage, however, MKBHD says that next time you see a car video on his channel, make sure you lookout for some of those shots. As MKBHD summarizes: “I can’t wait until we actually start making stuff…just unlocks a whole new world. Obviously, we’re solving a problem that we had in the past with hanging out the back of a car and a hatchback..it’s a way safer and way cooler”.

I can’t wait until we actually start making stuff…just unlocks a whole new world.

Not for hobbyists

We do hope MKBHD has his own trained team for that kind of setup. It’s not easy operating a pursuit camera car. Every shot and maneuver has to be meticulously planned and professionally coordinated, in order to avoid camera accidents, and even much worse than that, casualties. Anyway, we’re hoping to show you some neat stuff shot on it.
