Canon has published an apology regarding the challenging supply chains of its main products: EOS R3 and EOS R5 C. Canon states that “It may take more than half a year to deliver the EOS R3”. As for the newly announced EOR R5 C, Canon says that it will be shipped “One by one” (Google translated). Read the statement beneath.

Canon publishes “Apology and guidance regarding product supply status”

This is the announcement (Google translated from Japanese): “Thank you for your continued patronage of Canon products. Currently, we have received orders for each of the following products in excess of expectations, and due to the influence of global parts supply, delivery delays are occurring. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers and business partners. The products are scheduled to be shipped one by one, but it is expected that it will take a lot of time for the new camera body EOS R3 and RF lens RF14-35mm F4 L IS USM. We sincerely apologize for the long wait for our long-awaited customers. We will continue to take measures to ensure a stable supply of products so that we can deliver our products as soon as possible. Thank you kindly look forward to your understanding”.

Delay times

The delay times are relevant to the newly announced super-telephoto lenses, and more importantly, to the EOS R3 and EOS R5 C. For the EOS R3 Canon states (Google translated): “It will be shipped in sequence, but it may take more than half a year to deliver when you place a new order”. As for the EOS R5 C, it states: “We plan to ship the products one by one, but it may take longer than usual to deliver”. Here is a screenshot from the announcement:

Final thoughts

On our dealers’ sites (B&H and Adorama), you can request a “Stock/sale alert” for the EOR R5 C and R3, however, no immediate stock exists. If so, Canon’s announcement makes this a hard purchase. Six months is a lot of time to wait for a camera. It reminds us of the delays regarding the RED Komodo. For that, RED has improved its supply chain significantly regarding its V-Raptor. Nevertheless, waiting six months for professional equipment is illogical. Till then, Canon will announce more ‘pro’ products, that obviously will enter this problematic and stretching supply processes as well, which can lead to a bottleneck and thus further delays.
