It appears that ARRI has started to send invitations for the launch event of its new “next-generation” 4K Super 35 camera. The camera will be introduced from May 31 (in the State) to June 7 (in Tokyo). ARRI states that this camera “Elevates digital cinematography to unprecedented heights”.
Update (25/5/22): Full brochure of the ALEXA 35 leaked. Article here.
ARRI’s new camera: Launch event
Reddit users have reported about being invited by ARRI to the launch of its new camera, the ARRI 4K Super 35. Although we didn’t get any invite, we saw this from multiple resources (waiting from ARRI to confirm it). The duration of the new camera introduction will be expanded to over a week. As stated in the invitations: “For your convenience, we scheduled the celebration in the United States to take place in two different locations: New York and Los Angeles—New York Launch Event Tuesday, May 31, 2022”. Also, it appears that the event will be held on dates: June 1 in Singapore, June 2 in Sydney, June 6 in Melbourne, and June 7th in Tokyo.
Update (24/5/22): Here are the dates of the ARRI 35 keynote:
We are excited to invite you to celebrate the launch of the next-generation camera from ARRI that elevates digital cinematography to unprecedented heights.
ARRI
“Unprecedented heights” of cinematography
As you can see in the slides, the invitation states that the ARRI 4K Super 35 is the next generation camera from ARRI: “We are excited to invite you to celebrate the launch of the next generation camera from ARRI that elevates digital cinematography to unprecedented heights…You are invited to be one of the first to experience the new ARRI 4K Super 35 camera. This exclusive event will feature hands-on demonstrations of the new camera, in-depth product presentations, and discussions with our experts” ARRI says. Again, we haven’t got any invitation yet, however, this info seems legit (We’ll update the article once we get more answers from ARRI).
ARRI 4K Super 35
The ARRI S35 4K camera will have a new S35 4K 4:3 sensor and the size of the body will be close to the ALEXA Mini LF. It will be compatible with the MVF-2 viewfinder and will support CODEX Compact Drives which have been introduced with the ALEXA Mini LF. Also, we know that the new camera will be a B-Mount, 24 V camera. That’s because within that camera ARRI claims to have “really exciting image quality improvements” that need more processing power (higher resolution, color bit-depth, and fps). As for the price —no info yet. We’d guess a price point similar to the ALEXA Mini LF. Also, no info regarding the name of the camera. ARRI hasn’t mentioned it’s an ALEXA, so be prepared for a brand new name. Obviously, we keep you posted.
Exciting news. Looking forward to seeing footage shot with it.
Memo to ARRI: Not nice to exclude a major publication from an invite to a new camera. Sometimes corporations bite the hand that feeds them!
Saw the invite. Friend that got it had purchased two minis in the past. So maybe that’s the threshold for an invite ?
