ARRI dominates the film festival arena, and RED is the king on Netflix productions

Oscar, Netflix, Sundance, and Cannes cameras

Our articles regarding the cameras used on major film festivals (Sundance, Oscar, Cannes) and Netflix went well by initiating engaging discussions about what is the best camera. Of course, there is no such thing as the best camera, like there is no such thing as the best wife (or husband).  The best camera is the one that fits you the most. It can be RED, ARRI, Canon, or GoPro.

Important statement: We made those charts to show statistics. Why? Because it’s fascinating to explore trends on different productions or to investigate similarity among various artistic needs.

ARRI vs. RED

We found that ARRI dominates the film festival arena. On the other hand, we found that RED is the king on Netflix productions. Furthermore, we saw maximum camera diversity in Cannes and a shallow variance factor in the Academy Award (aka Oscar).

RED fans claim that ARRI owns vast connections within the Academy Award community, ARRI fans claim that RED has its inside agents in Netflix. In my personal opinion, none of them is correct. However, we’ll continue to analyze those statistics just because it’s exciting. We are not trying to get into any conclusion based on that.
