Yet another educating review by CVP. This time they are focusing on the Sony CineAlta BURANO. This comprehensive review touches on many aspects of this great camera. However, the readout tests performed by CVP caught the eye the most. These test results raised questions regarding the price of the BURANO. Many claimed that at this price range, a faster readout is expected. CVP compared the readout speed to the acclaimed VENICE and other cameras as well. Explore the results below:

For most filmmaking situations this (BURANO’s readout speed) will be perfectly fine. But compared to other modern sensors on the market, like Sony’s own FX3 and FX6, RED V-Raptor cameras, and even the ALEXA Mini LF, this is slow.

Closing thoughts

The Sony BURANO produces stunning imagery. This is one of the best cinema cameras out there that was developed for solo shooters. The BURANO sits between FX9 and VENICE. However, it’s a CineAlta camera. That means the BURNO belongs to the company’s top line of digital cinema cameras. Moreover, BURANO is unique as it’s the world’s first digital cinema camera with a PL-Mount to feature in-body image stabilization. That’s why professional shooters wish for good test results regarding the readout speed. Sony should improve this in the next firmware updates, if possible. Meanwhile, if you want to shoot fast with the BURANO, shoot in 4K.
