Some Mission: Impossible 7 (and 8?) footage has been leaked to the web intentionally or not, showing some serious rigging of the cameras. It seems that this is the first film in the series to be shot entirely on digital cameras. However, we’re not sure about the camera model. Can you guess it?

Mission: Impossible 7 – Cameras

The production on the 7th and 8th installments will be filmed back to back during COVID limitations and regulations. For instance, everyone (including Tom Cruise) is wearing a face mask during the principal photography, even in the action sequences. The footage in this article was published by the Daily Mail Celebrity and reveals some of the cameras being used to shoot the movie. It’s important to note that the footage shows the cameras used for the action scenes, which are mainly compact cameras that can be rigged to a car and motorcycle. However, these are probably digital cameras. For instance, check out this image from the film director Christopher McQuarrie Instagram, which shows a high octane action sequence shooting Tom on a train. Is that the VENICE Extension Unit?

  3. Mission: Impossible III (2006) – Arriflex 235, Arriflex 435, Panavision Panaflex Millennium XL, Panavision Panaflex Platinum, Sony CineAlta HDC-F950
  4. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011) – Arriflex 435, IMAX MSM 9802, Panavision Panaflex Millennium XL2, Red Epic
  5. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) – ARRI Alexa 65,  ARRI Alexa XT, ARRIFLEX 235, ARRIFLEX 435, Panavision Panaflex Millennium XL2

According to the IMDB tech spec, Mission: impossible 7 (and 8) will be shot on ARRIFLEX 235, ARRIFLEX 435, and Panavision Panaflex Millennium XL. However, this data is still premature and most probably not accurate at this stage. The Tech Spec data will be changed soon. Nevertheless, by judging from the leaked (?) footage, there is no sign of film cameras.

We think we have identified some Sony VENICE and/or ALEXA Mini LF. Nevertheless, we can be wrong about that. Explore the images in the article and take your bet.

  1. The camera in the first photo with the motorcycle is the Alexa Mini (not LF). It´s not clearly visible in the other photos which camera it is..
