Filmmaker and director Ryan Connolly, has crafted a very straightforward review on the newly announced Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro. It’s not an in-depth review, but its simplicity justifies watching it, especially for Pocket 4K owners.
Blackmagic is clearly a company that loves indie filmmakers and I love them for that.

BMPCC6K Pro = URSA Mini Pro + Pocket 6K
The BMPCC6K Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K) Pro was announced a month ago. Basically, it’s a super 35 camera that includes additional features such as built-in 2, 4, and 6 stop ND filters, adjustable tilt HDR LCD with a bright 1500 nits that are ideal for use in bright sunlight. It also includes two mini XLR audio inputs and a larger NP-F570 style battery apparatus. Read the full announcement here.
It’s insane the level of the image that you’re getting out of this $2,500 camera that could easily cut right along with footage from the URSA G2 and I would bet it would easily cut-in with footage from the ALEXA as well.

Ryan Connolly: “Write, Shoot, Edit, Repeat”
Although there are several reviews and hands-on videos on the net, we chose to like to write about this very simple review by Ryan Connolly from Film Riot. Ryan is a writer/director and cinematographer that specializes in creating and crafting indie projects to make them look like blockbusters. Ryan knows how to well conduct the filmmaking orchestra by assembling affordable camera setups and small crews, and still achieving the polished big-studio results. His slogan is: Write, Shoot, Edit, Repeat, which truly describes what we do. Make sure to watch his films here.
Pocket 6K Pro review
This straightforward review is under 10 minutes long. It’s not an in-depth review. But it truly summarizes the key points of this camera, and thus constitutes a good start for those who are less familiar with the 6K model. Watch the review below:
Final thoughts
In the review, Ryan says that: “It’s insane the level of the image that you’re getting out of this $2,500 camera that could easily cut right along with footage from the URSA G2 and I would bet it would easily cut-in with footage from the ALEXA as well. And it’s only $2,500 that’s insane to me”. Ryan summarizes by saying that: “If you’re a vlogger this is not the camera for you but for filmmakers this thing really is killer”. Ryan also points out the disadvantages of the Pocket 6K (low light and the lack of in-body stabilization). Nevertheless, we can conclude by quoting Ryam and say: “Blackmagic is clearly a company that loves indie filmmakers and I love them for that”. Do you agree with this phrase? Comment below.
I have to agree. I did the lighting (using Fiilex 360s) for this short film and even the low light imagery impresses me https://vimeo.com/363929015
