Hemsworth and Hargrave gave it all in Extraction 2. However, this Netflix action masterpiece is buried inside Netflix instead of being screened on the big canvas or even in IMAX theaters, and then moving into home TV (including Netflix). Moviegoers want Extraction 3 on the big screen, and NOT on Netflix.
OK. Let’s say it. In our opinion, Netflix is not the right platform for action masterpieces. Movie theaters are the right platform for that. It’s all about the viewer’s state of matter.
Extraction 2: An action masterpiece, but for Netflix
We wrote a decent amount of articles regarding the cinematography behind Extraction (1&2), focusing on the director’s dedication to assembling a very long ‘oner’. On Extraction 1 there was ‘only’ 11 minutes oner. However, in the sequel it was multiplied. Extraction 1 introduced some crazy cinematography techniques which have been amplified in Extraction 2. The first one was shot on the RED Monstro and the second on the ARRI Mini LF, and RED Komodo for the ultra-complicated action shots, especially the 22 minutes (and a few seconds) oner. Hence, Extraction was made by true camera lovers and cinematography enthusiasts.

Filmed by Marvel stuntman
Indeed, Extraction (1&2) director, Sam Hargrave, is a well-trained stuntman who accumulated thousands of hours of expertise when operating for Marvel Cinematic World. In the Netflix BTS, he said that all his knowledge was utilized to create those camera stunts, which are pretty insane and very dangerous. Furthermore, tons of time and training were invested in those action sequences just to make them safe as possible, and epic. Moreover, Hargrave’s partner, Hemsworth, which is the main star of Extraction, was fully dedicated to this complex and meticulously crafted process. And their both gave it all, as one of the commenters said: “I’m gonna say it! The action sequences were mind-blowing and very immersive. It’s safe to say that this film exceeded all my expectations and deserves all the praise it’s getting. Kudos to Hemsworth and the entire team for delivering such an epic cinematic experience! PS: Should be in Theaters!”. If so, why it was not distributed at movie theaters? Why Netflix?
Netflix is not the right platform for action masterpieces
OK. Let’s say it. In our opinion, Netflix is not the right platform for action masterpieces. Movie theaters are the right platform for that. It’s all about the viewer’s state of matter. When watching a movie on Netflix, most of the time, all you want is just to spend time. You are not fully immersed like in a theater. And the TV, even if you own an 8K one, it’s not even close to a big canvas. Back then, during the pandemic, Extraction 1 was good to be watched on home TV (=Netflix), since there weren’t any other options. Nowadays, we got theaters. Imagine watching this 22 (and a few seconds) of kinetic oner in IMAX. That would be awesome! Moreover, as stated, Extraction 2 (and 1) was filmed on an IMAX-certified camera (ARRI Mini LF), so with dedicated adjustments, it could be screened in an IMAX theater. As for the Komodo, which is not IMAX certified, the action sequences look pretty good on an IMAX screen (see Michael Bay’s Ambulance for reference and our review here). Thus, let’s hope Hargrave will change direction and go all the way to the big screen with Extraction 3.
