On these type of applications, the CPU served as a bottleneck which causes a reduction in speed and workflow. 8K playback, 4K RAW editing, and color grading

Complicated tasks like 8K editing (or 4K RAW editing and playback), advanced music composition and color grading, demand high capabilities GPU based mobile system. Till now, the only valid option was Apple’s MacBook Pro. However, benchmarks testing have revealed that the Studio RTX introduced much better results in video editing, 8K RAW playback, and color grading. These results allow the RTX Studio to be used as MacBook Pro alternatives.

Which RTX Studio is the best?

It seems that there is some hidden contest between RTX Studio’s manufactures to produce the fastest and most powerful laptop. If so, ASUS is winning, because the ProArt StudioBook One is the most powerful RTX Studio till now. ASUS defines ProArt StudioBook One as “The world’s most graphically-powered laptop” and “The world’s first laptop with Quadro RTX 6000 GPU”.

A few words about the GPU: Powered by the NVIDIA Turing architecture and the NVIDIA RTX platform, the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 Graphics Card fuses ray tracing. The GPU contains CUDA-compatible applications which can assign intensive parallel computing tasks, such as real-time video rendering. The price of the card alone is about $5,000.

Final thoughts

The big question remains here is the “How Much” question. As written above, the GPU alone is about $5,000, which means the laptop can go up to $8,000 and beyond. The implementation of the Quadro RTX 6000 technology inside a mobile workstation demonstrates an impressive engineering achievement. That is not a laptop for advanced gamers, but a real solution for those who need it for their professions, like editors, colorists, animators, etc.

Would you invest that sum of money in a mobile workstation even if you need it? For now, there are other 38 RTX Studio laptops to choose from, and with a much lower price point that can sort you out in your professional production. Nevertheless, the Quadro RTX 6000 laptop is quite an impressive piece of tech. Furthermore, it’s important to note that the RTX Studios have not yet been tested vastly on the field, which is still dominated by the MacBook Pros. Will it be changed? Time will tell.
