Strange move by Nikon India (spotted by NikonRumors) that published by mistake an unfinished presentation of the Nikon Z9. The video exposes a few main unknown features that are pretty impressive even for mirrorless flagships. This evidence shows that Nikon Z9 will be capable of shooting 8K video at 60 frames per second. Leaked by Nikon India

The video was published by Nikon India by mistake. This is an unfinished version of the video since it features an ‘AudioJungle’ audio watermark before fully licensed. The most logical assumption is that Nikon India uploaded a test version to its YouTube channel, but forgot to define it as a private video (password protected). Instead, the video was marked as ‘Public’ by mistake, which led to further exposure and republished by multiple sources. Nikon India removed the video, however, you can still watch it in on Weibo and Bilibili. Anyway, the video shows some impressive specs and proves that the Nikon Z9 has a chance to be the most advanced mirrorless camera on market.

Resolution: 8K at 60FPS

Accordion to the first slide, the Nikon Z9 will be capable of shooting 8K at 60FPS. As far as I know, there’s no mirrorless that can achieve that. It must be noted that there’s no info regarding the codec and bitrate. Nevertheless, 8K60p constitutes a very high capability in terms of spec, for a mirrorless camera. Added to the fact that the Z9 can record unlimited 8K videos (read: Nikon Z9 Will Allow Unlimited 8K Video Recording), it seems that the Z9 model utilizes ultra high resolution in order to satisfy advanced videographers.

“World’s fastest scan rate”

The next slide says that the Nikon Z9 owns the “World’s fastest scan rate”, and 120FPS continues shooting. I’m not sure what it means ‘scan rate’. It might be related to the newly developed processor of the Z9. Furthermore, it doesn’t specify the resolution of that 120FPS, although most probably it’s not going to be 8K. However, it might be allowed on 6K, since 120FPS at 4K resolution is not new. Interesting….

Tilting monitor

The last slide is not so interesting. Nikon just shows its newly developed monitor that has the capability of multi-axis tilting.

Summary

If patient is the key, then we’d wait for the next official teaser by Nikon, which is supposed to be published in the next few days. However, why be patient when so intriguing presentation was leaked that shows new information that was unknown before. According to the ‘dry’ specs, the Nikon Z9 is located above the R5 and even above the Sony Alpha 1, which makes it the most advanced mirrorless camera in the market.
