Amazon’s 5 Best-Selling APS-C Cameras: Sony Takes Three Spots as the $1,498 a6700 Ranks No. 1

APS-C is often treated as the more affordable alternative to full frame, but Amazon’s current best-selling camera ranking tells a more interesting story. The top five includes models priced from $569 all the way up to $1,649, with Sony’s $1,498 a6700 sitting at No. 1. In other words, APS-C buyers are not simply looking for the cheapest interchangeable-lens camera. They are choosing between very different types of cameras for hybrid shooting, content creation, sports, wildlife, and general photography. Sony currently occupies three of the five positions, while Canon takes the remaining two. The ranking is led by the Sony a6700 ($1,498 on Amazon), followed by the Canon EOS R50 V, Sony ZV-E10 II ($1,298 on Amazon), Canon EOS R7 ($1,649 on Amazon), and Sony a6400 ($824.91 on Amazon). That gives Sony a strong presence, but the more useful takeaway for buyers is how different these five cameras actually are.

1. Sony a6700 — $1,498

The Sony a6700 currently sits at the top of Amazon’s APS-C ranking, and that is notable because it is far from being an entry-level camera. At $1,498 for the body, the a6700 is positioned as Sony’s high-end APS-C hybrid camera. It uses a 26MP APS-C sensor and combines photography features with a serious video toolset. For buyers who want one relatively compact camera for stills and video, this is probably the most complete Sony APS-C body in the lineup. The a6700 makes the most sense for photographers and filmmakers who already understand why they want APS-C. Wildlife shooters can benefit from the crop factor, travel shooters get a smaller system than many full-frame alternatives, and video users gain access to Sony’s current autofocus and recording features without stepping into a larger full-frame body. Its No. 1 position is also a reminder that APS-C is no longer simply a budget format. Buyers are apparently willing to spend close to $1,500 on an APS-C body when the feature set is strong enough.

2. Canon EOS R50 V — $569

The Canon EOS R50 V takes the opposite approach. At $569 in the Amazon listing shown here, it is by far the least expensive camera in the top five. Canon designed the R50 V with content creators and video users clearly in mind. It is based around a 24.2MP APS-C sensor and places more emphasis on video, vlogging, livestreaming, and creator-oriented operation than a traditional entry-level stills camera. For someone primarily shooting YouTube, social content, interviews, travel video, or simple productions, the R50 V can be much easier to justify than spending $1,500 on an a6700. The price difference is substantial. A buyer could purchase the R50 V and still have significant budget left for a lens, microphone, tripod, lighting, or other production accessories. Amazon also shows a 21% discount from a listed $719 price in the screenshot, making its current positioning particularly aggressive.

3. Sony ZV-E10 II — $1,198

The Sony ZV-E10 II is another camera built specifically around modern content creation. It uses a 26MP APS-C sensor and supports 4K recording up to 60 fps. Unlike the a6700, the ZV-E10 II is not primarily designed as a traditional enthusiast photography camera. Its layout, articulating screen, compact body, and overall design philosophy are centered more heavily around video creators. That makes the buying decision fairly straightforward. Someone who mainly wants a compact Sony camera for video may not need to pay the premium for the a6700. The ZV-E10 II gives access to Sony E-mount lenses and a strong video platform while staying below the price of Sony’s flagship APS-C body. However, at $1,198, it is no longer a cheap creator camera. Buyers should compare it carefully against both the a6700 and lower-priced alternatives, especially once lenses are included.

4. Canon EOS R7 — $1,649

The Canon EOS R7 is the most expensive camera in this top five, at least based on the Amazon listings captured here. Its 32.5MP APS-C sensor immediately separates it from the creator-focused models above it. The R7 is aimed more toward photographers who want resolution, speed, reach, and a more conventional enthusiast camera body. Sports and wildlife are obvious use cases. APS-C effectively gives photographers a narrower field of view with the same lens compared with full frame, which can be useful when shooting distant subjects. The R7 therefore competes less directly with cameras like the R50 V or ZV-E10 II than the ranking might initially suggest. They all use APS-C sensors, but they are designed for very different users. At $1,649, the R7 also enters a price range where buyers should compare it with full-frame bodies. That does not automatically make full frame better. A photographer specifically interested in wildlife, sports, or reach may still prefer the R7.

5. Sony a6400 — $1,098

The Sony a6400 may be the most surprising camera in the ranking. Introduced years ago, it continues to sell strongly enough to remain among Amazon’s five best-selling APS-C bodies. That says a lot about the longevity of Sony’s APS-C system and the large number of E-mount lenses available. The a6400 remains a capable camera, particularly for stills, travel, general photography, and users who want access to Sony E-mount without buying one of the newest bodies. However, the $1,098 price shown in the current Amazon listing deserves attention. At that level, the a6400 becomes much harder to evaluate purely on value because newer Sony cameras are now positioned close to it. This is exactly why buyers should not assume that an older camera is automatically cheaper. Amazon pricing changes constantly, and older products can sometimes remain listed at prices that make less sense than newer alternatives.

What the ranking actually tells buyers

The most useful part of this ranking is not simply which camera is first or fifth. It shows how wide the APS-C market has become. The Canon R50 V costs $569 and is focused heavily on creators. The Sony a6700 costs almost three times as much and targets advanced hybrid shooters. The Canon R7 reaches $1,649 and is particularly attractive to photographers looking for speed and reach. Meanwhile, the ZV-E10 II occupies the middle ground for dedicated Sony video creators. That makes “APS-C versus full frame” an increasingly incomplete way to shop for a camera. The better question is what the camera will actually be used for. A YouTube creator may be better served by the R50 V or ZV-E10 II. A hybrid shooter who needs strong stills and video performance may prefer the a6700. A wildlife or sports photographer may find the R7 more appropriate. And someone already invested in Sony E-mount may still find the a6400 relevant if the price is right. There is another clear pattern here as well: video is now central to APS-C. Three of the five cameras in this ranking are either explicitly creator-focused or heavily optimized for hybrid video use. That reflects how APS-C has evolved. The format is no longer just the starting point for beginner photographers. It has become one of the most competitive areas of the camera market for compact video and hybrid systems.

Sony leads, but the buyer should look beyond the ranking

Sony currently takes three of Amazon’s top five APS-C positions, including the No. 1 spot with the a6700. Canon takes the remaining two with cameras targeting very different ends of the market. But Amazon ranking alone should not decide the purchase. The a6700 may be No. 1, but someone who mainly shoots simple creator content may save hundreds of dollars with the R50 V. The R7 may rank fourth, but it could still be the more appropriate camera for wildlife. The ZV-E10 II may be third, but it could make more sense than the a6700 for a video-first user. That is the real value of this top-five list. It shows that APS-C buyers today are not choosing between five similar cameras. They are choosing between five different approaches to what a compact interchangeable-lens camera can be.
