DJI Announces a new Mini-Gimbal: The Osmo Pocket

As we previously reported, DJI’s new gimbal is the Osmo Pocket. Unfortunately, no Hasselblad camera nor 1 inch sensor, but a only a 1/2.3-inch sensor. Read more below.

DJI Osmo Pocket

Micro gimbal device

The Osmo Pocket is small enough to fit in your and (or pocket). It looks like a miniature gimbal. Actually is the smallest stabilizer I have ever seen with a camera attached. As stated by DJI: “The smallest 3-axis stabilized handheld camera DJI has ever designed”

Camera: no Hasselblad

The camera reminds the structure of the Mavic 2 Pro camera, but again, it looks like a miniature version of the Hasselblad camera. Unfortunately, Hasselblad has no connection with the Osmo pocket. This is a slight disappointment because we hoped to see the Hasselblad logo here, like the Hasselblad L1D-20C implemented in the Mavic 2 Pro.

Osmo Pocket uses DJI’s smallest 3-axis mechanical handheld gimbal. In real time, it precisely adjusts for your movements, turning your handheld video of a golden sunset or your child’s first steps into a movie-like scene

Sensor: 1/2.3″ CMOS Sensor

Since the camera is tiny, the sensor doesn’t have much of a real estate, and thus it’s small. He hoped to get 1 inch sensor but sadly it’s a only 1/2.3″ CMOS Sensor.

Activation via the Mimo App

The activation of the Osmo pocket is done via application called Mimo.

DJI Mimo offers editing tools for users to enhance their photos and videos. With tools like HD live view during recording, intelligent modes, and a content sharing platform. The app lets you capture, edit, and share. DJI says on their website that the app will be available soon.

Conclusions

Two words: image quality. We have to wait and see if the Osmo Pocket can be compared to GoPro exceptional color science. However, in term of robustness, GoPro takes big time. .

From what we’ve seen so far, this is defiantly not a GoPro killer, especially when armed with the HyperSmooth technology.
