Have you ever wondered what’s inside a RED camera? Stop wondering and start watching the new crazy video from the Linus Tech Tips guys. Appears that they have a license to kill a HELIUM 8K. Just beware, this video is hard to watch.

Disassembling a RED

Although the RED EPIC-W BRAIN with HELIUM 8K S35 is not the most expensive RED (only $19,500), you probably wouldn’t take it apart. It seems that the guys at Linus Tech Tips had some free time (and money), so they have decided to perform this ultra-ambitious project, to disassemble and then reassemble a whole new HELIUM 8K camera. The ability to take apart and then put together again the camera is very challenging due to the compact design of the RED. In my opinion, there is no video out there that shows disassembling of a RED. If you’ll find some, email us.

RED’s cooling mechanism

It’s important to mention, that the main reason for this project was to investigate if there is a way to cool the camera by water (water-cooling) instead of fans. This joke was the excuse to disassembling in order to explore the cooling mechanism of the camera. Does it sound bizarre? Absolutely. But who cares? The video is fun to watch.

Anyway, for a quick glance, watch some of the video’s screengrabs below that feature selected parts (literally speaking) of the disassembling operation.

What do you think about the video? I think that this RED is toast. However, no worries, since the views will pay for a new one.
