Gladiator 2 trailer: 149,000 Likes, but 350,000 Dislikes

From Hans Zimmer to rap music. The super anticipated trailer for Gladiator 2 was released. And it’s a pure disappointment. The audiences are voting with their YT likes. The trailer got 149,000 Likes, but 350,000 Dislikes, which means more than twice Dislikes. Hence, it indicates that the audience didn’t like it, and it’s well reflected in the comment section. Here are some selected YT comments:

  • “The best thing about this movie will be people rewatching the original”
  • “I just watched Gladiator again to wash the sins I committed by watching this trailer”
  • “So we went from Hans Zimmer to my brother’s Spotify playlist”
  • “The trailer just shouts: ‘CREATIVE BANKRUPTCY!’”
  • “This looks like a parody of the original movie”
  • “Can’t believe I just saw the whole movie in three minutes with a rap edit, no need to waste a couple of hours in a theatre”
  • “Great choice of music….. All that’s missing is Dom Toretto drifting around the Colosseum in a modified chariot”

Yep, there would be a freefall compared to the first legendary Gladiator masterpiece, especially concerning the soundtrack. Gladiator 1 has one of the best soundtracks ever composed by Zimmer, compared to rap music (?!) on the sequel. Check out the two trailers (Gladiator 1 & 2) below:

Let’s talk about the cameras

The first Gladiator was shot on film, utilizing the Aaton 35-III and ARRIFLEX 35-III, versus the sequel that was shot digitally mainly on the ARRI ALEXA Mini LF. Scott utilized 8 of those cameras at once to shoot one scene. Then it all has been crafted in the editing suite to assemble precise action shots. Indeed, the digital compact cameras on Gladiator II constitute a solid advantage when shooting fast-paced action. Nevertheless, it looks like Scott is a film guy. That means, he is a director that operates much better when shooting film, but these are our two cents, so don’t take it as something unambiguous.

Can the sequel keep up?

The first Gladiator grossed $465 million worldwide, becoming the second highest-grossing film of 2000. Critics praised the acting, directing, cinematography, production design, and musical score. The film won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Crowe. Can the sequel keep up?

  1. It’s easy for bots to post this amount of likes/dislikes. This is not the case on YouTube. So what are you posting here. A campaign to destroy something. It’s not real, it’s fabricated & you clearly have issues that you need help with.
