The MISSION 1 PRO is still a very new product, positioned at the top of GoPro’s lineup with an 8K60 recording mode, a 1-inch sensor, 50MP stills, high-frame-rate recording, and HyperSmooth stabilization.

The $599 price is also interesting because GoPro originally offered similar pricing as a benefit for existing GoPro subscribers, while the regular MSRP remained $699.99. Amazon is now effectively bringing that price to regular buyers without requiring a GoPro subscription. For users who were interested in the MISSION 1 PRO but considered the original $699 price a little high, the new $599 price makes the camera considerably more attractive. There is no indication that this represents a permanent price adjustment, so for now it should be viewed simply as an Amazon discount rather than an official MSRP change.

At $599, the GoPro MISSION 1 PRO becomes a much easier recommendation than it was at $699. It is still a premium-priced action camera, but the combination of its 1-inch sensor, 8K recording, 50MP stills, and compact form factor makes the new Amazon price considerably more appealing. If you were already considering the MISSION 1 PRO, this is a much more attractive entry point. Could it go lower than that?

It’s just too much money for a GoPro. They’ve spent over a decade essentially training people that they could upgrade for a reasonable price, and now this massive jump. Sure, there will be some outliers who will buy, and use the product’s maximum capabilities, but for most people, they simply want an action camera they can turn on and go surfing, skateboarding, or in my case, stick it out the car window in war zones, and let it do it’s thing. Even for someone like me who tweaks ProTune and loves big files that are great for color, I’m not going to spend this kind of money. Until now, while doing the ACTION, if you break it or lose it, no big deal. At $599, it’s a big deal. I think most people are going to pass at this price point.
Feel the same. But this camera was designed initially for professional cinematic production as a crush camera, and for that, this price is awesome. For amateurs, the Black 10 and beyond are far from being enough. But for pros – this is it.
