72nd Emmy Awards Nominees for Outstanding Cinematography

The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards will honor the best in U.S. prime time television programming from June 1, 2019, until May 31, 2020, as chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The ceremony was original to be held at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was changed virtually from the actors’ homes across the U.S. and will be held on September 20, 2020, and broadcast in the U.S. by ABC. For statistical purposes, we’ve collected the data regarding cameras and lenses being used to shoot by the DPs nominated for three “Outstanding Cinematography” categories: Limited Series or Movie, Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour), and Single-Camera Series (One Hour). Explore the slides below, with the description under each slide that contains the name of the DP, cameras, and lenses. The main chart is underneath.

Important note! In order to explore the cameras and lenses, vast research was performed. However, in case a mistake is revealed, please notify us (email, comment) and we’ll look after it. Also, we are working hard on those original charts and infographics for the filmmaking community. Thus, you can download the slides/charts for your personal use. In case you desire to embed the chart on your social media or website, please give proper credit to Y.M.Cinema Magazine linked to the correct article.

    • This category indeed was ignored due to:
      1) Lack of approved data.
      2) This category contains many cameras that are not considered as cinema cameras but more as broadcast and other video cameras. We wanted to focus on cinema cameras exclusively.

  1. I don’t understand the chart at the top of the screen which has ARRI as the largest share and then the later chart which has Sony with the largest share and both say they cover the 14 nominations in 2020?
