Battle-tested RED DSMC2 brain with the Monstro 8K VV sensor is in stock for just $24,500, which is more than 50% discount (original price: $54,500), and a price reduction of $10,000 compared to the previous Battle Tested Monstro.

Battle-Tested

The ‘Battle-Tested’ program was initiated in 2019. The goal is to offer refurbished RED cameras with a 90-day warranty. According to RED, the Battle-Tested products have gone through a rigorous evaluation and factory-refurbishment process to meet product performance specifications. Products may include some minor cosmetic blemishes and carry a RED Re-Certified Warranty of 90 days from the date of delivery. Think of it like the ARRI CPO (Certified Pre-Owned program). Furthermore, RED said that you will have the option to purchase Armor to extend that by another year. The first DSMC2 models to have participated in the Battle-Tested program were the flagship Monstro 8K VV cameras. Back then, the price was $35,000.

For now, you can purchase a Battle-Tested Monstro (2018 unified DSMC2) for just $24,500. The camera is in stock and can be purchased on the B&H website. It’s an interesting to note, that according to B&H, the camera comes with limited 1-year warranty, as opposed to the ‘Battle-Tested’ program which offers 90 days. So which is correct? Anyway, it’s a pretty good deal for those who want to get one of the best camera in the professional market. The Monstro is capable of shooting large format 8K up to 60 fps, and up to 300 fps in 2K. Furthermore, the Monstro owns the best sensor of all DSMC2 models.

Final thoughts

Although it’s not mentioned on the B&H website, that this “Refurbished” RED Monstro is indeed a ‘Battle-Tested’ product, we can assume that it is.  Moreover, there’s no info on how many hours it has on it. Be that as it may, and plus the “Limited 1-Year Warranty”, we think it should be a good enough deal to be considered. What’re your thoughts about this deal? Comment below.
