Fujifilm has announced the instax mini Evo 2, a new hybrid instant camera featuring a 13MP imaging system, a 4.5-inch touchscreen, and a video function that captures the moments before a photograph is taken. Priced at $289.95, the new model builds on the original instax mini Evo with improved digital imaging capabilities while retaining its retro design and instant printing functionality. The camera is expected to arrive in late November 2026.

A significant upgrade over the original instax mini Evo

The original instax mini Evo, currently listed on Amazon for $229.99, features a 1/5-inch CMOS sensor capable of capturing approximately 5MP photographs. The new instax mini Evo 2 upgrades to a larger 1/2.77-inch CMOS sensor, increasing maximum photographic resolution to approximately 13MP. This represents more than twice the pixel count of its predecessor, although a microSD card ($35.99 on Amazon) is required to capture images at the highest resolution. Another substantial change is the rear display. Fujifilm has replaced the original 3-inch LCD with a much larger 4.5-inch touchscreen, the first touchscreen introduced in the instax camera lineup.

Video recording comes to the instax mini Evo

Perhaps the most interesting addition is instax Immersive Movie, a new function that automatically records the four seconds preceding a photograph and preserves them as part of a five-second video clip. Unlike conventional video cameras, the Evo 2 does not offer unrestricted video recording. The feature is designed to capture a brief moment of movement surrounding a still photograph rather than serve as a dedicated video mode. The camera also introduces instax Expanded View, which displays a wider area around the actual shooting frame to help photographers anticipate movement and improve composition.

Instant printing and analog-inspired controls remain

Despite its digital upgrades, the Evo 2 retains the characteristics of the original camera, including physical control dials, a print lever, and 100 creative combinations produced by 10 lens effects and 10 film effects. Users can select photographs for printing on 2 × 3-inch instax mini film, with output resolution reaching 600 dpi. The camera also supports smartphone printing, remote shooting through the updated instax mini Evo app, and USB-C charging.

Price and availability

The Fujifilm instax mini Evo ($219 on Amazon) 2 ($289.95 on Amazon) will be available in the United States at the end of November 2026 for $289.95, approximately $60 more than the current Amazon price of the original mini Evo. While the camera is not intended for professional filmmaking, its combination of improved digital photography, short-form video capture, and instant physical prints reflects Fujifilm’s continued development of hybrid imaging devices that blend digital functionality with traditional photographic experiences.
