Irix has completed the compatibility of its cine lenses (11,15,45,150) to fit Nikon and Leica cameras, together with the recently announced Canon C70 (and of course all RF mounts). That means you can use Irix affordable Cine glass to capture the beauty of the mirrorless cameras.

About a week ago, Irix has announced its Cine series lenses to fit the Canon RF mount, complementing the existing set consisting of Sony E, Canon EF, Arri PL, and MFT mounts. Now, the company introduces more adaptations regarding Nikon Z and Leica L-mounts. The Cine series includes the 11mm T4.3, 15mm T2.6, 45mm T1.5, and 150mm T3.0 which are affordable rehoused stills in a cinema package that can produce decent images.

“Ready to work in 8K”

Like the rest of the Irix Cine lenses, the new mount options exhibit the same optical properties as well as durable and ergonomic construction. According to Irix: “The reinforced and sealed structure guarantees the safety of filming in difficult weather conditions and also protects the camera sensor against dust and moisture”. Furthermore, Irix claims that all its Cine products are ready to work in 8K resolution, thus allowing you to take advantage of the latest cinematography technologies.

Irix Cine lenses highlights

Here are the highlights of the Cine series as described by Irix:

  1. Superb optics: The Irix Cine lenses are claimed to give a perfectly sharp image at 8K resolution.
  2. Rugged construction: The Irix Cine lenses are ready to work for many years in difficult conditions. Even after a long period of use, the lens will work like new.
  3. Future-proof solutions: The Irix Cine is a product lineup that is constantly growing: new focal lengths will soon be announced, as well as new accessories mounted on the Magnetic Mount System (MMS).

The reinforced and sealed structure guarantees the safety of filming in difficult weather conditions and also protects the camera sensor against dust and moisture.

The advantages of native mounts

Even in cine glass that is 100% manual, there is a valid need for native adaptation over an external adapter. The native mount (without adapter) makes the whole set rigid when used even with mechanized follow focus systems and aperture adjustment systems. An additional advantage is that the set is still fully sealed to protect the internal construction of the lens and camera sensor against dirt, dust, or splashes. Thus, the native connection is always preferred, even when there is no electric data transfer.

Price

The price of the new Cine lenses remains the same: $1,195 per lens. That price point makes the lenses a good investment, especially if you need a cine glass apparatus but you don’t want to invest a $5,000 (or much more) in a real cine glass. As for now, the lenses are not available for preorder yet. However, you can check the B&H Irix page which I believe will get updated with the new products.
