Discussion

When comparing the data to the 77th Golden Globe Awards, we can notice four basic changes: The reduction in film cameras, the absence of Panavision cameras (DXL), the elevation of Blackmagic cameras, and the significant rise of the Sony VENICE. The ALEXA Mini keeps on being an extremely popular camera among high-end productions. However, the VENICE jumps from the last place to 1st. Moreover, the VENICE was one of the main choices made by cinematographers regarding the 72nd Emmy Awards. Another pleasing discovery is the Blackmagic cameras (URSA G2 and Pocket 4K). It’s time for Blackmagic to be honored by acclaimed cinematographers. On the other side, it’s unfortunate not to reveal many film cameras in that list compared to last year’s Golden Globe Awards (30% of the cameras were film cameras).

What are your thoughts about the cameras used to shoot the 78th Golden Globe Awards’ films? Are you surprised to see the VENICE on top of that list? Were you expecting to reveal other camera manufacturers as well? Comment below.
