RED Digital Cinema introduces new options to upgrade your DSMC2, and yes, it’s relevant even to RAVEN owners. According to RED, this is your last chance to upgrade. Read below about RED’s official Ranger Trade-in program.

From DSMC2 Raven to the Ranger

The announcement regarding this trade-in program was a bit of surprise since back in February, RED declared about the last chance to upgrade from the Raven to the Dragon-X. The goal of that upgrade option was to allow Raven owners the privilege of changeable mounts, in-camera IPP2, more resolution, and larger sensor. The cost of the upgrade was $8,500. We don’t know how many Raven owners took advantage of that offer. That option was very limited in time (from Feb 11-15), and RED said that this offer would no be extended.

However, it seems that Raven owners are back to the game since this new trade-in program allows the privilege of upgrading the Raven to almost any other DSMC2 and Ranger options (Ranger Gemini- $22,450, Ranger Helium- $27,450, DSMC2 Monstro- $52,000, DSMC2 Helium- $22,000 and DSMC2 Gemini- $17,000).

From RED-One to Ranger

Surprisingly, there are trade-in pathways for RED-One owners, as well. Check the table below for the options and prices:

As stated by RED: “RED offers a variety of Trade-In options described in the table below to take you to DSMC2 (MONSTRO, HELIUM, GEMINI) or RANGER (HELIUM, GEMINI). Trade-Ins may be performed through a RED Authorized Dealer or directly with RED”.  For more info, go to RED’s website, select the camera model you currently own, and view all upgrade and trade-in options available on that camera.

Check out the chart below that demonstrates the options and prices to upgrade the major RED model to the Ranger HELIUM. (Click on the image to get a larger view).

Paving the way to DSMC3 (?)

Would the Ranger Trade-in program pave the way for DSMC3? It might. It seems that RED is encouraging the all-in-one structure (Ranger design) over modularity. Should it indicate on the upcoming DSMC3 models? I guess we’ll find out soon since RED is a company full of surprises.
