Netflix approved cameras

The list of Netflix approved cameras can be quite interesting reference for cinema cameras that have been excepted to some kind of an elite group. “Netflix Approved” can be defined as a prestige badge for quality. However, it’ll be smart taking this statement with a grain of salt, since there are fantastic cameras that have been excluded from that list (ALEXA Classic, AMIRA, Canon C200, and more). Furthermore, there is not even one film camera on that list, which means everything, as the most high-quality cameras shoot film. For some on-topic statistics, feel free to examine the chart below, which ranks the popularity of cameras used by the best Netflix original TV shows in 2019 (press on image for larger view):

The fact that the EOS C300 Mark3 has got into the list is not supposed to be a big surprise. The C300 Mark III is the most advanced Cinema EOS developed till now. Although it’s not a trendy large format camera, it’s armed with Canon’s highly sophisticated new sensor that delivers 16 stops of DR. RED Komodo and Netflix

I must say that there is some curiosity in the air regarding the new RED Komodo and Netflix’s list. Will it be accepted by Netflix? Although all RED cameras are on the list, the Komodo is a bit different RED animal, since it offers a new compression rate of REDCODE RAW. For now, there are only two compression rates (HQ and MQ), and LQ is confirmed in future firmware updates. However, will it be good enough for Netflix? Only time will tell. What’s your bet?
