The RED Komodo Operation Guide (Beta) is a 150 pages of user manual that contains all the features and operation instructions of the camera. The guide is defined as Beta, which means it’s open for changes. Nevertheless, it’s the most accurate and comprehensive document you can find on the new Baby Dragon. Explore it below.

Komodo Operation Guide

The operation guide is not listed yet on RED Digital Cinema website. Maybe because there are things, features, specifications and parameters that are being changed constantly. It’s important to emphasize that the camera is not being released yet. The firmware updates are pushed to ST (stormtrooper) users that own the white cameras together with other early adopters that own the colored cameras. For now, there were two updates (For more info make sure to read Y.M.Cinema Magazine articles about the RED Komodo). The operation guide itself is defined as beta version. Unfortunately, this guide lacks the appendix dealing with the technical specifications, which we’re hoping to find.

The newest entrant into the RED lineup is a compact, all-in-one, and highly powerful cinema camera.

The guide contains the following topics:

Safety instructions, quick reference, camera components, menus, how to, troubleshooting, mechanical drawing, and menu map. For instance, it’s interesting to reveal how RED defines its baby dragon: “The newest entrant into the RED lineup is a compact, all-in-one, and highly powerful cinema camera. It features RED’s cinema grade image quality, color science, and sensor technology in a portable form factor cinematographers can take anywhere and adapt to any shooting scenario”.

For the whole guide, explore the PDF viewer below:

As explained, this document is the most comprehensive one about the RED Komodo. There is no need to take it with the grain of salt because it’s an accurate piece of information. However, expect it to be changed a bit when the Blacks (regular Komodos)  ships.

The document can be found on RED website in this link.
